Monday Musings: Things we’re loving this week…

From must-reads to must-buys, here is our list of everything you need to do, wear and see now.

Gone girl

Gone Girl was number 1 on the New York Times Hardcover Fiction Bestseller List for eight weeks and by the end of its first year in publication it had sold over two million copies. When our favourite thriller was rumoured to become a film we couldn’t have been more excited. Now we’ve watched the film adaptation (and am pleased to say it lives up to all our expectations) all we want to do is re-read and re-watch the thriller that has us all gripped.

Socks with heels

When the weather begins to get a little miserable and damp, it’s a sad day when you have to pack away the sandals to make room for boots. But we’re getting the most out of our summer shoes by wearing our favourite heeled sandals and peep toes with cute ankle socks. Whether you choose mis-matched patterns or go for bold contrasting colours, simply pair yours with a mid length skirt and a flash of leg for a cool yet sophisticated transitional look.

Lena Dunham book

The highly anticipated ‘life lessons’ book, by our favourite Girls actress, Lena Durnham has finally been released. It’s currently number 2 on the New York Times Non-Fiction Bestseller List so it has the credentials of a must-read. The book is a series of dispatches based on her own experience on the challenges and most memorable parts of the teenage years. The Sunday Times has described the book as ‘Frank, fearless and funny’- we’re off to get our copy now.

Capes

In classic British style, the weather still seems to be the hot topic on everyone’s lips. Get ahead of the crowd by investing in the new ‘it’ item for the season, the cape. The cape was prolific across the autumn/winter catwalks and since then the item has become a cult item, with the fashion elite aplenty spotted coveting the winter item. This Coast option is one of our favourites for its cool, minimalist colours and flattering tie waist. Style yours with over the knee boots for a sophisticated look that is ready to combat the winter chill.

The Shoe Book

Next on our burgeoning list of must-reads is The Shoe Book. Following on from Assouline’s Anthology Collections that have included The T-Shirt Book and The Trench Book, The Shoe Book explores the history and designs that have shaped the shoes that we wear today. With contributions by Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin and Sarah Jessica Parker the book is a must-read for all shoe lovers.

With the days drawing in for the cooler season it can only mean two things: it’s time to start your Christmas list and time to make your home a cosy sanctuary. Our faux fur throws and scented Yankee candles are the perfect items to make your nights in a little more snug. We’re taking inspiration from the rich oranges and browns from the autumn leaves by opting for a chocolate brown faux fur throw and warm orange candles.
